Labor Shortages & Vacancies
An employer survey yielded a list of jobs in high demand or hard to fill.  For each regional, industry, and establishment size group, a list of the top 25-50 difficult to fill or high demand occupations is included.  Each listed occupation is categorized according to O*NET occupation codes, which will allow the user to retrieve an occupational description, the required educational credentials and skills and abilities from the O*NET database.  Additionally, it is important for the user to be aware that the survey was conducted during an economic downturn.  Therefore, the researchers conclude that it is likely that firms reported general difficulty in filling many occupations even though they had no current openings available. Finally, because these data are reported directly by employers, some apparent inconsistencies may emerge.  For example, teachers may appear to need less than a bachelor's degree, when in fact, the data reflect a need for substitute teachers who may not require a bachelor's degree."
